During my recent trip to Milan, I discovered Obikà, Mozzarella Bar located on the top floor next to the very enticing gourmet area of the popular Rinascente department store (great place for shopping by the way) with stunning views of the Duomo. Never having heard of a mozzarella bar I was intrigued and then delighted. This very hip restaurant complete with terrace, sitting and bar areas offers a variety of high quality Mozzarellas di Buffala Campana D.O.P. (fresh Italian cheese hand made from the milk of water buffalos in Campania and Lazio, Italy) starting with Paestum which has a delicate taste, Pontina with a stronger taste, Affumicata which is naturally smoked and lastly Burrata which as we all know is heavenly creamy. Once you have decided on your choice of mozzarella then you can choose from a wide array of products such as sun-dried tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, capers, greens, proscuitto, anchovies, salmon… to combine with the cheese. Besides the mozzarella dishes, there are also pizzas and other light dishes in case you go with someone who isn’t a mozzarella fan, but seriously, who isn’t?
In case you aren’t going to make it to Milan this summer, Obikà Mozzarrella Bar has many other locations in Italy as well as around the globe in Tokyo, London, Istanbul, New York, Los Angeles or Toronto. Check out their webpage for more exact directions: http://www.obika.com
