Located a bit on the outskirts of the more touristy Milan you will find Nuovo Macello. Not to worry though, the taxi ride isn’t expensive. This is the kind of restaurant which I love to find when traveling because it is a place where the locals are. I loved the atmosphere, it was sort of like peeking into Milanese lifestyle with the families gathered around la mamma to share a weekday dinner or friends celebrating a birthday. It’s the kind of place with a warm hearty feel to it that lets you perceive that it is part of many people’s lives and that gives us, the outsider, the tourist, the feel that you are upon an authentic restaurant and not just your typical spaghetti a la bolognese type of place. My husband ordered meat which was good but being the pasta lover that I am, when in Italy I always go with the pasta or the risotto; at Nuovo Macello I am happy to say I went with both!
Loved the tortellini
Risotto with saffron – deliciously creamy
My husband’s Cotoletta alla Milanese, this is one of the house’s signature dishes and unlike most, here they cut a thick piece of veal and slowly cook it in butter until it is tender.
Soft focaccia to go with our meal
Lemon and meringue dessert
Our waitress who seemed to be the owner and who was extremely nice and helpful said that we could leave without trying the pistachio ice-cream on the house. It tasted the way pistachio ice-cream should.
How did we think of coming here? Well, a friend recommended it, apparently his father-in-law is a regular and I have to say that we had a very tasty meal. Thank you!
Important information: they don’t accept credit cards so make sure to bring cash unless you want to do the dishes.
