The Christmas fuss is gone in most parts of the world but in some places, like Spain, we are still waiting for the 3 kings who come tonight to give toys to all the good boys and girls and coal to the naughty ones. Soon it will be time for Sales. My husband and I love wondering through the streets trying to find a great bargain. Many times we need to stop for a quick bite to eat and one of our new finds is Bocadillo de Jamón y Champán near Alonso Martínez Square on Fernando VI Street. Also near the Piamonte area which has lots of stylish shops. The menu is basically sandwiches and champagne which of course is the best pairing for Spanish ham (OK, the manzanillas and Co are also great). They keep several bottles open so you can order by the glass or go all out and get a bottle.
The place is small but nicely decorated in a light shade of wood with white exposed brick walls. There are lots of high stools where you can sit and enjoy your sandwich.
If you are a sandwich lover, the sandwiches here are very tasty. We had a Chiquinho which is chapata bread with truffled mortadella, rocket, parmigiano, quince jelly and duonnaise sauce.
and a Telmo, which is chapata bread with Bellota ham, creamy cheese, piquillo peppers and caramelized onions.Bocadillo de Jamón y Champán 21 Fernando VI Street, 28004 Madrid
