Who would have thought that hidden away in Aquamarina Apartments near Anfi del Mar is a very bland looking apartment building would hide what is one of the best restaurant on the island of Gran Canaria. This restaurant was referred to us by one of the owners of the Bounty clothes stores, which I strongly recommend for any male shopaholic. We casually got into a conversation about restaurants and we always kept the name “Aquarela” in the back of our minds. During Spring Break this year we decided to check it out with some friends and we were all pleasantly surprised.
At the entrance there is an area for grabbing a quick bite to eat, then walking past the wine cellar you arrive to the elegantly decorated dining room in a black and white color scheme which opens out onto a terrace for those who prefer al fresco dining.
The food has an elaborated touch which is not easy to come upon on the island and what is even better is that it is all very tasty.
The chef’s welcome appetizers which consisted of truffle cream with mango, cone filled with guacamole and kipper and finally parmesan profiteroles. I apologize for the photos, as they were taken without enough light.
Long summer days call for the beach with a drink in hand, laying on a long chair, working on your tan. Recently I have been becoming a beach club fan. When I go to Gran Canaria I love going down to Amadores Beach Club. Stylishly decorated with long chairs or round white beds set around a salt water swimming pool where a DJ sets the chill out mood. The drink list ranges from soft drinks to cocktails to champagne. You can also order food; sandwiches and salads make for a lighter meal or you can order more elaborate dishes to have either pool side or at the sit down restaurant.
believe it or not, it’s a sandwich
I advice to book in advance. Prices range from individual long chair 15,00€, double long chairs 30,00 € , round balinese bed 35,00 € and King size long chairs 40,00 €
I definitely plan to kick back and relax at Amadores Beach Club this summer! I hope that Seve and Arancha will join us!

Happy 2014 to all! I hope that everyone enjoyed the holidays and that one of your New Year’s resolutions is to continue to discover new places and revisit old loves. We spent the Christmas break on the island as we always do and thanks to our friend Arantxa who is on a permanent quest of finding new and exciting places to take us every time we visit, we came upon Summum, located on the top floor of the Reina Isabel Hotel which is right on Las Canteras promenade in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Summum has nothing to do with the other restaurant there. It has been redecorated and reconceptualized giving the restaurant a modern flare, not to mention that it has an absolutely stunning view overlooking the beach.
The restaurant opened in October and they have opted for a more international cuisine with chef Andrés Ríos giving his dishes a more Japanese or Peruvian accent with plates such as Causa, tiraditos or ceviches.
During Christmas it is always nice to get away from the cold and go down to the Canary Islands where the weather is mild. Working on your tan on the 24th of December always feels a bit strange to me and seeing Santa surf into town is a bit peculiar. Here I thought that he only flew into town. Oh well, live and learn.
